Winsing’s First Anime ‘Shadows of the Void’ to Premiere on Bilibili

Chinese video-sharing platform Bilibili has announced it will exclusively premiere Shadows of the Void on April 10. The sci-fi project marks studio Winsing Animation’s (GG Bond, GoGoBus) first anime drama, and unfolds as two spirited girls confront a catastrophic threat known as the Voidflux to protect their home world.

Infused with rich Chinese cultural influences, the series intricately weaves elements such as character attire inspired by Chinese motifs and combat sequences rooted in traditional martial arts like Wing Chun. The landscapes of the “Sand Zone” draw inspiration from the ancient Chinese city of Dunhuang.

Utilizing cartoon rendering over 3D CG, Shadows of the Void strives to maintain the artistic style of traditional 2D animation while seamlessly incorporating smooth three-dimensional effects. The production leveraged Autodesk Maya and Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 in its pipeline to produce the distinctive visuals.

Shadows of the Void features dual female protagonists, Coral and Yujia. The series explores their contrasting personalities, adding depth and complexity to the storyline. Coral’s infectious optimism inspires those around her to embrace their beliefs, while Yujia’s introspective journey reflects the path of self-discovery.

“We aim to showcase the multifaceted strength of women through a distinctive lens,” explains Lu Jinming, Chief Director of Winsing Animation.

In addition to its premiere collaboration with Bilibili, Winsing Animation is actively seeking partners to introduce Shadows of the Void to international audiences.
