Only a week after the hugely popular animated series Bluey delivered a popular half-hour special, the series is back with a previously unannounced new episode, appropriately titled “Surprise.” The episode, which premiered this Sunday (April 21) on Disney+ at midnight, also aired on Disney Junior at 7 a.m. and Disney Channel at 7:30 a.m with multiple re-airings throughout the day.
Spoiler ahead: In the 28-minute special “The Sign,” the Heeler family faced the prospect of selling their beloved family home. However, the sale didn’t go through and Bluey and the gang will stayed in their stained-glass house for now. The enthusiastic response of fans to the show has opened the door to a possible Bluey feature in the future. Creator Joe Brumm told The Guardian recently, “I love the idea of doing something even longer, so we’ll see how this goes down. Maybe a movie, who knows? This is a good way to test the waters.”
Bluey producer Sam Moor also told the BBC, “No, this is not the end for Bluey. I’m sure we have many more surprises in store for you. We have more in store and we are thinking what would be next.”
Bluey currently airs in more than 60 countries. It was streamed for more than 20 billion minutes on Disney+ in the U.S. last year, accounting for nearly one-third of all TV views on the streamer. Created and written by Brumm, the series follows Bluey, a lovable and inexhaustible Blue Heeler dog who lives with her Mum, Dad, and little sister, Bingo. Bluey uses her limitless energy to play games that unfold in unpredictable and hilarious ways, bringing her family and the whole neighborhood into her world of fun.
Produced by the multiple Emmy-winning Ludo Studio for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and BBC Studios Kids & Family, the series airs and streams to U.S. and global audiences (outside of Australia, New Zealand and China) across Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney+ through a global broadcasting deal between BBC Studios Kids & Family and Disney Branded Television.
