Vincent Paronnaud (Persepolis) and Alexis Ducord’s (Zombilennium) new animated feature Into the Wonderwoods, has announced a series of global sales to distributors around the world via Urban Sales. The 84-minute movie, which is produced by Je Suis Bien Content (Persepolis), Gaoshan Pictures (Le Petit Nicolas, I Lost My Body) and Zeilt Productions (Mr Hublot), follows the adventures of an imaginative ten-year-old boy who is accidentally left behind by his parents at a rest stop and encounters a series of strange creatures along the way.
The movie is based on Parronaud’s comic-book (written under the pseudonym Winshluss) Angelo, dans la foret mysterieuse. We wrote about the movie at the European pitch event Cartoon Movie earlier this year.
Into the Wonderwoods will premiere on May 22 at the Cannes Film Festival and will also unspool at Annecy as part of the festival’s main competition in June. According to Variety, the film has sold to 45 territories including Volga (CIS territories and the Baltics), Selim Ramia (for the MENA region), Skyline (Vietnam), New Horizons (Poland), Ascot Eliot (Switzerland), Movies Inspired (Italy), Vercine (Spain) and Pris Audiovisuais (Portugal). The $10 million-budgeted film will be released by Le Pacte in France on Oct. 23. Advanced negotiations are also underway for distribution in Benelux, China, Germany, Turkey, Latin America and N. America.
