During Anime Expo 2024 this weekend, Warner Bros. Japan offered up a first look at the upcoming cel-shaded CG feature Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League. Fans were treated to the first teaser-trailer as well as new character posters and key art showcasing Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman. The new movie is “coming soon.”
The sequel will see Batman (voiced again by Koichi Yamadera) return to a DC-infused take on feudal Japan; a world with no justice, where he and Robin encounter kimono-clad versions of iconic DC heroes.
Yakuza League is directed by returning Ninja Batman helmer Jumpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi from a screenplay by Kazuki Nakashima, with character design by Takashi Okazaki and music by Yugo Kanno. Produced by Warner Bros. Japan, the film’s animation is provided by Kamikaze Douga.
Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League is a follow-up to the 2018 pic Batman Ninja, which screened in Japanese cinemas as well as airing on Toonami and releasing on digital and disc through WBHE. Batman Ninja has also spawned a Seiun Award-winning manga adaptation, created by Masato Hisa (Area 51) and published in Monthly Hero’s, as well as a 2021 stage play.
