Having purred its way to audience approval (80% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, B+ Cinemascore) and more than $218 million at the global box office since its May 24 release, Sony Pictures & Alcon Entertainment’s fully-animated family comedy The Garfield Movie is bringing the beloved cat brat home. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has released the film on Digital, and we’re here to celebrate with an exclusive preview of some of the fun behind-the-scenes extras included in the release.
The How to Draw clips feature character designer Taylor Krahenbuhl, who explains how the filmmakers translated the beloved comic-strip characters Garfield and Odie into playful, malleable and expressive CG animated versions, with guidance from creator Jim Davis himself. Krahenbuhl won the 2023 Annie AWard for Outstanding Achievement for Character Design in an Animated Feature for his work on DreamWorks’ The Bad Guys. Directed by Mark Dindal (The Emperor’s New Groove), The Garfield Movie sends the lasagna-loving housecat (voiced by Chris Pratt) and his canine companion Odie (Harvey Guillén) on an out-of-control adventure when he is reunited with his father, Vic (Samuel L. Jackson), a street cat who enlists the pampered pets in a hairy heist. The voice cast also features Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang and Snoop Dogg.
The digital release bonus features include a gag reel, Easter eggs guide, deleted scene animatic, concept art, animation progression reel, featurettes on the making-of and the cast as well as the How to Draws.
