What’s up, Doc? Well for one, it’s about to be Bugs Bunny’s 84th birthday! The recently launched classic cartoons channel MeTV Toons is marking the grand event with Hare’s to Bugs! A Bugs Bunny Celebration, a one-hour original special that takes fans and viewers on a heartwarming journey through the legacy of the world’s most famous cartoon superstar. Witness Bugs Bunny’s extraordinary transformation from animated character to global and pop culture icon.
The new special anchors a day of animated programming dedicated to the “Wascally Wabbit” on his new network television home. Produced in association with Warner Bros. Discovery, Hare’s to Bugs! charts the character’s meteoric rise to fame and his unmatched global recognition with classic archival footage and exclusive new interviews with voice actors Bob Bergen, Eric Bauza, Jeff Bergman, Candi Milo, Billy West, TV hosts Bill Leff and Kevin Fleming, animation historian Jerry Beck and others.
Premiering Saturday, July 27 at 10 a.m. / 9c, the special will have multiple encore airings across the day as part of the MeTV Toons ‘Bugs Bunny’s Birthday Bash’ full-day celebration. (See schedule below.)
The programming event marks the 84th anniversary of Bugs Bunny’s first official appearance in the Merrie Melodies short A Wild Hare. Directed by Fred Avery with music by Carl Stalling and produced by Leon Schlesinger for Warner Bros., the Oscar-nominated film features Mel Blanc as the wisecracking rabbit and premiered on July 27, 1940.
