As their latest big screen vehicle Despicable Me 4 crosses $255 million at the global box office following gits No. 1 debut over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, Illumination’s gibberish-jiving little yellow henchmen are gearing up for their next starring turn: Minions 3 has been announced for June 30, 2027, releasing through Universal Pictures.
The third film in the prequel series will be directed by Oscar nominee Pierre Coffin, who helmed the first Minions (2015) and the first three Despicable Me movies as well as creating the unique vocal characterizations for Kevin, Bob, Stuart and the rest of the Minions. The screenplay is written by Brian Lynch (Minions, The Secret Life of Pets films). Illumination Founder & CEO Chris Meledandri and Bill Ryan (exec producer, The Super Mario Bros. Movie) are producing.
