Toho Dates ‘My Hero Academia: You’re Next’ U.S. Debut This Fall

My Hero Academia: You're Next [Toho International]

Toho International will be releasing My Hero Academia: You’re Next — the latest feature film installment in the global hit anime and manga franchise — in U.S. theaters on October 11, screening in Japanese with English subtitles and English dubbed versions.

The North American premiere date was revealed this past weekend during a My Hero Academia Special Event at the 2024 Anime Expo in Los Angeles, where fans were shown an exclusive look at the first 15 minutes of the film. The panel featured voice talent from the film:

  • Daiki Yamashita (Rekka Shirogane in Gaist Crusher, Sakamichi Onoda in Yowamushi Pedal) voice of Izuku Midoriya
  • Kenta Miyake (Scar in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Muhammad Avdol in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure) – voice of All Might
  • Mamoru Miyano (Light Yagami in Death Note, Setsuna F. Seiei in Mobile Suit Gundam OO) – voice of Giulio Gandini (original  movie character)
  • Meru Nukumi (My Boyfriend in Orange) – voice of Anna Scervino (original movie character)

Synopsis: In a world where people with supernatural powers, or “quirks,” have become commonplace, All Might, the former No. 1 hero known as the “symbol of peace,” retires from his position after winning a deadly battle with the emperor of Evil. His heroic will was passed down to Izuku and the other students in the Hero Department of Yuei High School.

Izuku confronts Shigaraki Tomura, who has acquired a terrifying power, and they clash violently. Both sides suffer heavy damage, and the battle comes to an end with Shigaraki’s retreat — but the time for the two sides to meet again is fast approaching.

In a society devastated by the effects of this all-out war, a mysterious giant fortress suddenly appeared, engulfing towns and people one after another. Then, a man reminiscent of a “symbol of peace” appears before Izuku and his friends…

You’re Next is directed by Okamura Tensai from a screenplay by Kuroda Yosuke. The creative team also includes main character designer Magoe Yoshihiko, character designer/supervising animation director Hayashi Yuki, animation director Odajima Hitomi and composer Hayashi Yuki. The animation is produced by studio Bones (Mob Psycho 100; Bungo Stray Dogs).

My Hero Academia is based on the popular manga by Kohei Horikoshi serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha), which has sold more than 85 million copies.
