Australian talent agency Bella Management announces a strategic partnership with Xentrix Studios Australia to develop a new animated television series, Peggy and Molly. The show will be inspired by the real-life, heartwarming and unlikely friendship between Peggy, a spirited Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and Molly, a clever and adventurous magpie.
The animated series is set in a picturesque suburban neighborhood where Peggy, a lovable Staffy, and Molly, a curious magpie, form an unexpected bond. Their daily adventures will emphasize the importance of friendship, understanding, cooperation, teamwork and finding magic in everyday moments. Each episode will present engaging storylines that impart valuable life lessons, promoting positive values and inclusivity.
With this partnership, Bella Management and Xentrix aim to “push the boundaries of traditional animation,” creating a vibrant, immersive world for their interspecies BFFS with state-of-the-art animation technology.
“We are thrilled to collaborate with Xentrix Studios Australia on Peggy and Molly. Xentrix has worked with all the major media houses such as Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount, Marvel and Nickelodeon on projects that include Ice Age, Angry Birds, Spiderman, Batman, Monster High and The LEGO Movie,” said Chelsea Bonner, CEO of Bella Management. “This series captures the essence of adventure and the power of friendship, values that are close to our hearts. We believe this charming duo will resonate with viewers worldwide and leave a lasting impact.”
Xentrix Studios Australia’s Creative Director, Ken Cantrill, added, “Working on Peggy and Molly is a fantastic opportunity for us. The characters are endearing, and the story speaks for itself. Anyone following the journey of Peggy and Molly will fully appreciate that this story is perfect for an animated TV series. We are committed to creating an animated series that is not only entertaining but also visually stunning and has solid educational messages. We can’t wait to introduce Peggy and Molly’s world to audiences everywhere.”
The producing partners intend for Peggy and Molly to be available on multiple platforms and in an array of languages, both dubbed and subtitled. Another goal for the series is to partner with a wildlife charity.
Peggy and Molly’s curious bond began four years ago, when Peggy’s owner Juliette Wells found a seemingly abandoned chick at their local dog park. Wells and her partner Reece Mortensen nurtured the baby magpie to adulthood, and tried to encourage it to return to the wild. But the bird became enmeshed with the family.
After years of social media stardom, in early 2024 Molly was made to be surrendered to the Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation, which said in a statement “Animals from the wild, must stay wild.” However, DESI admitted it would be impossible to release Molly due to her domestication, and the bird may instead spend the rest of her 30-year lifespan in a facility. Fans of the animal influencers who signed a 155,000-person petition — and even Queensland Premier Steven Miles — demanded the family be reunited, and DESI returned Molly to Wells and Mortensen six weeks later.
