CTN (Creative Talent Network | creativetalentnetwork.com), proudly announces new details and theme for the second annual Andreas Deja Scholarship, a pioneering initiative dedicated to fostering the rising stars in 2D animation.
The 2024 assignment has been announced as ‘The Perfect Fit?,’ created by celebrated animator and the scholarship’s namesake, Andreas Deja. It challenges aspiring animators to create a pencil animation of a character struggling to fit into a coat/jacket, to reveal that the item is either too large or too small for them, or other, to demonstrate their animation skills.
Deja will be the blind judge of all entries, with CTN Foundation rewarding one winner a cash prize, and Deja will provide that winner with a year of mentorship for a new animated project. The contest also awards runners up with prizes, opportunities, and complimentary admissions to CTNX24, the next edition of Creative Talent Network’s annual four-day expo, taking place November 21-24 in Burbank, California.
The call for entries to the 2nd Annual Andreas Deja Scholarship is open now thru September 27, 2024. For more information on eligibility, dates and complete details, visit ctnfoundation.org/andreas-deja-award. (Apply directly at ctnf.smapply.io/prog/ctn_foundation_program.)
“I’m always excited to see the great work generated by the next generation of animators, and am thrilled that CTN provides them this opportunity,’ said Deja. “Last year I was so impressed with the quality of submissions and delighted to spend time discussing animation with the winners who brought beautiful perspectives to the assignment. I’m even more eager to see what this year holds.”
The scholarship is made possible through the contributions of individuals, animation studios and organizations committed to investing in the future of animation. To sponsor or donate to the Andreas Deja Scholarship Fund, please visit ctnfoundation.org/donation.

Named a Disney Legend in 2015, honoring contributions in animation during his 30-year career at Walt Disney Animation Studios, renown animator Andreas Deja dates his dream of being an animator to seeing Disney’s original animated feature The Jungle Book as an 11-year old growing up in Germany. When he wrote to the studio and they responded telling him to study and draw, he carried the inspiration through school, after which he met mentor Eric Larson, one of Walt’s famed “Nine Old Men,” submitting drawings, and was invited to Disney’s six-week internship program. He spent the next three decades creating iconic contributions to classic features including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King.
Deja’s most recent project is a 28-minute short film Mushka, about a little girl and an orphaned Tiger cub. It combines Deja’s love of hand drawn animation and lifelong passion for animals. Andreas regularly posts to his blog, DEJA VIEW, and Instagram, @OfficialAndreasDeja.
