‘My Hero Academia: You’re Next’ Debuts New Poster & English Dub Cast

Toho International has revealed a mighty new poster for the North American release of My Hero Academia: You’re Next, in theaters on October 11. Designed by Bones Inc. animator Yoshihiko Umakoshi, the poster features fan-favorite characters Deku, Todoroki and Bakugo against a silhouette of the movie’s villain, Dark Might.

My Hero Academia is a fantastic title with many fans not only in Japan, but also worldwide. I’ve been aware of the passionate fans in North America since the release of the first film. So this time around, we wanted to prepare the special visual as a gift to the fans,” said Bones CEO Masahiko Minami.

“Because we wanted to make sure that the visual resonated with fans in North America while staying true to the MHA franchise, we worked closely with our local partners going through several rounds of feedback. Focusing on just the movie-original villain, Dark Might, along with Deku, Bakugo and Todoroki, might seem like a minimal selection of characters in a way. But I think we were able to produce a wonderful design with this limited selection, as it amplifies Dark Might’s mysterious presence while showcasing the three heroes’ dynamic movements in an impactful way.”

“Yoshihiko Umakoshi is one of the super creators, who has been part of the MHA anime development from the ground up,” the chief studio exec added. “Being versed in American comics, he cares very much about the North American fans. Although he tends to be shy, he’s always thinking of ways to make people happy and I think we were able to produce this striking visual because of his intentions

Toho also revealed details on the English dub cast for the film’s new characters: Christopher Sabat (Dragon Ball, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt), the voice of All Might in the series, returns to My Hero Academia as the film’s antagonist, Dark Might. He’s joined by Mauricio Ortiz-Segura (Chillin’ in Another World with Level 2 Super Cheat Powers, Sugar Apple Fairy Tale) and Kayli Mills (Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-, The Seven Deadly Sins), who voice all-new characters Giulio Gandini and Anna Scervino, respectively.

Set after the conclusion of My Hero Academia Season 6 and right before the final battle between heroes and villains (based on the popular manga by Kohei Horikoshi), My Hero Academia: You’re Next sees Deku and his friends face a new threat— a mysterious figure calling himself Dark Might and claiming to be the new Symbol of Peace.

The film released in Japan earlier this month on August 2 to a strong positive reaction and box office success, beginning its theatrical run just before the final chapter of the My Hero Academia manga was released that same weekend.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next encompasses the heroes’ growth throughout the animated TV series as well as the previous three films, and it’s truly a masterpiece. I hope everyone can witness how far the characters have come both mentally and physically on the big screen,” Minami concludes. “With incredible action scenes and inspirational portrayals of the characters striving to become even better heroes, I think the fans will come to like MHA even more with this film.”
