Dan Da Dan First EncounterTickets are on sale now for the theatrical premiere of Science SARU’s highly anticipated sci-fi/occult anime Dan Da Dan in North America. On theme for all things spooky, the limited U.S. and Canada screening engagement kicks off on Friday the 13th of September, running through Sunday, Sept. 15.

The theatrical premiere, released by GKIDS under the moniker Dan Da Dan: First Encounter will feature the first three episodes of the series. The premiere will also feature an exclusive interview with Yukinobu Tatsu and Shihei Lin, the author and editor of the original manga; Fuga Yamashiro, director of the anime series; and Shion Wakayama and Natsuki Hanae, voice actors for the leads Momo and Okarun, respectively.

Synopsis: Dan Da Dan follows Momo, a high school girl from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult freak. The two of them start talking after Momo rescues Okarun from getting bullied. However, an argument ensues between them — Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts. To make the mutual deniers believe in each other, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital known for its UFO sightings, and Okarun goes to a tunnel that is said to be haunted. In each place, they encounter overwhelming paranormal activity that transcends comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to challenge the paranormal forces! Their fateful love begins as well!?

The story of the occult battle and adolescence starts!

Produced by Science SARU (DEVILMAN crybaby, Inu-Oh, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, The Colors Within), the series is the directorial debut of studio veteran Yamashiro (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, The Heike Story). The series is scored by composer kensuke ushio (Chainsaw Man, DEVILMAN crybaby, The Colors Within).

The anime series is a television adaptation of Tatsu’s manga of the same name, which is currently serialized in Shonen Jump Plus by Shueisha. Tatsu previously worked as an assistant to Tatsuki Fujimoto on his global hit series Chainsaw Man‘ and Fire Punch, and Yuji Kaku on Hell’s Paradise: Jigokuraku.

Ahead of the series’ debut, the first episode of Dan Da Dan premiered at this year’s Anime Expo in Los Angeles. On August 24, the English dub version of the first episode will debut at Anime NYC.
