On October 28 and 29, members of the The Animation Guild (IATSE Local 839) Negotiations Committee met with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) to address key issues in ongoing contract discussions. The committee focused on member priorities, including staffing minimums, retaining union jobs and implementing common-sense guardrails for generative AI use.
“The 2024 Animation Guild Negotiations Committee has worked diligently over the past two days to focus the studios on engaging with us on our highest member-identified proposals,” says Business Representative and Lead Negotiator Steve Kaplan. “Based on our recent discussions, we are hopeful that the studios are willing to provide us with the movement necessary to reach an agreement, and we look forward to meeting with them again in November.”
The Guild and the AMPTP will reconvene the week of November 18, 2024 for a consecutive series of negotiation sessions aimed at making progress. To build on this momentum, the Negotiations Committee voted to extend the current contract through December 2, 2024.
In anticipation of the November bargaining sessions, the committee is encouraging all members to stay engaged and united. A “March on the Boss” to deliver a solidarity petition was held at Netflix last week, part of a continued push to underscore members’ commitment to the negotiating process. Additional marches are planned in the coming weeks.
