‘Nessie Junior’ Swims to AFM with Epsilon Film

The first Epsilon Film development project, Nessie Junior, is ready to make waves as an upcoming animated movie highlight of the company’s slate, with presales kicking off at the American Film Market (AFM) in Las Vegas in November. The development is co-financed by animation oriented film-funder MFG (Medienförderung Baden-Württemberg).

Nessie Junior is a CG-animated movie based on the tale of the Loch Ness Monster, the mythical creature that has for centuries intrigued travelers and sightseers to the Scottish Highlands. Since sightings began in 1831 (or possibly 565 AD) and the sensational 933 photograph, which spread the story of Nessie all over the world, there has been no conclusive evidence to show the sea creature actually exists, despite scientific expeditions of the loch. Yet, the creature makes regular appearances in films and novels, and is still being hunted and tracked by obsessives and scientists. The question remains … is it a sea serpent, a once-thought-to-be-extinct dinosaur, or just a product of our collective imagination?

In the film, local fisherman Mylo, who claims to have been attacked by the aquatic creature, runs a Loch Ness Monster tourist show on the banks of the loch. His teenage daughter, Kellina, doesn’t believe his stories, nor does she believe in any of the myths of Loch Ness … but that all changes when she meets an actual, young “Nessie” named Fin. And so begins a tale of friendship and caution, loyalty and betrayal, fun and breathtaking adventure as the pair team up to uncover the sea creature’s family secrets hidden in the water’s depths.

Nessie Junior‘s team of producers includes Matthias Drescher, known for Shifting the Blame and the Emmy-winning War of Lies, along with Ulrich Schwarz, co-producer of Constantin Film’s Dragon Rider and producer of Netflix’s Stowaway. Award winner Robert Chandler (The Amazing Maurice, The Canterville Ghost) serves as executive producer. The first animation studio to board is M.A.R.K.13, based in Stuttgart, which is known for its work on films such as Vic the Viking and the Magic Sword and Maya the Bee.

Epsilon Film is on board as co-producer and sales company. The agency can be found at AFM in the Palm Casino Resort, 10th Floor, #225.
