StudioCanal’s upcoming animated feature Wings of Freedom, which pits some bird brains against a global artificial intelligence menace, is soaring to the American Film Market with Eva Longoria (Only Murders in the Building) and Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You) leading the voice cast. The project, due for release in 2026, is produced by Good Hero and Mediawan, and hails from the creators of Leap! (a.k.a. Ballerina).
Per the project’s announcement in 2022:
After Humans turn to AI to combat their global warming problem, the plan backfires when AI drones identify mankind as the main enemy to Earth’s survival. By 2340, an army of drones has taken over the planet and humans are nearly extinct. But a new resistance rises up, and courageous birds and animals around the world come together to create humanity’s last hope for survival: The Animal Air Force.
Longoria will play Salana, a homebody Eagle who enjoys the safety of her hidden bird colony, until a twist of fate launches her out of her comfort zone. Galatzine plays Lieutenant Pirro, a fearless swift in the Animal Air Force. These feathered comrades join forces with other animals to take down the AI threat known as “Eternity.”
The movie was written by Good Hero Co-Founder Laurent Zeitoun (Fireheart, Leap!) with Nick Luddington (Arcane).
