The Animation Showcase has announced a special limited release of the festival-favorite animated feature Memoir of a Snail during the holiday season. The platform is a free service for members of the motion picture & animation industry to enjoy the world’s most acclaimed and buzzworthy independent animated films.
Memoir of a Snail is directed by Oscar-winning Australian animator Adam Elliot (Harvie Krumpet, Mary and Max). This R-rated stop-motion feature tells the story of Grace Pudel (voiced by Sarah Snook), a lonely misfit with an affinity for collecting ornamental snails, who falls into a series of misfortunes after being separated from her twin brother, Gilbert. Despite her hardships, inspiration and hope arise when Grace begins a friendship with an eccentric elderly woman named Pinky.
Memoir of a Snail was the first-ever animated feature to win the Best Film Award at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2024; a few months earlier, Elliot became the first director ever to win two Cristal awards for Best Feature Film when Memoir of a Snail earned his second prestigious prize at Annecy International Animation Film Festival. It also recently won Best Animated Feature Film at the Sitges Film Festival and the MVFF Animation Award at Mill Valley Film Festival, among other recognitions.
The indie feature released in U.S. theaters on October 25 through IFC Films, only a few days after the Australian release by Madman Entertainment, and will soon roll out globally in many countries in Europe and around the world.
