Today, the European Film Academy revealed the nominees for the main categories of the 37th European Film Awards. The winners will be revealed in this year’s award ceremony on December 7 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
All nominees previously announced for the European Animated Feature Film category are also eligible for the overall European Film prize, the EFA’s top honor. These are:
- Flow (Latvia, France, Belgium) directed by Gints Zilbalodis, produced by Matīss Kaža, Gints Zilbalodis, Ron Dyens & Gregory Zalcman
- Living Large (Czechia, France, Slovakia) directed by Kristina Dufková, produced by Matej Chlupacek, Agata Novinski & Marc Faye
- Savages (Switzerland, France, Belgium) directed by Claude Barras, produced by Nicolas Burlet, Laurence Petit, Barbara Letellier, Carole Scotta, Vincent Tavier, Hugo Deghilage, Annemie Degryse & Olivier Glassey
- Sultana’s Dream (Spain, Germany, India) directed by Isabel Herguera, produced by Chelo Loureiro, Diego Herguera, Fabian Driehorst, Mariano Baratech & Iván Miñambres
- They Shot the Piano Player (Spain, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Peru) directed by Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal, produced by Cristina Huete, Serge Lalou, Sophie Cabon, Bruno Felix, Janneke van de Kerkhoff, Femke Wolting & Humberto Santana
The EFAs do not have a dedicated category for animated short films. However, two of the five films nominated for Short Film are animated:
- The Exploding Girl (France) directed by Caroline Poggi & Jonathan Vinel, produced by Oriane Hurard
- For the past three months, Candice has been exploding every day. Sometimes even two or three times a day. Her record is seven times. She currently has 192 explosions.
- Wander to Wonder (Netherlands, France, Belgium, U.K.) directed by Nina Gantz, produced by Stienette Bosklopper, Maarten Swart, Annemie Degryse, Ben Tesseur, Steven de Beul, Bart Yates, James Stevenson Bretton, Lisette Kelder
- Mary, Billybud and Fumbleton are three miniature actors who star in a kids’ TV series. After their creator dies, they are left alone in the studio. With their slowly decaying costumes and growing hunger, they continue to make increasingly strange episodes for their fans.
