In the same spirit of survival and perseverance of their show’s human colonist characters, stranded on a hostile planet, the creators of Scavengers Reign have produced a teaser trailer for Season 2 of the show — despite having no renewal order as yet. The haunting and eerily beautiful 2D animation was shared on Instagram by co-creator Joe Bennett, who confirmed S2 has not been officially greenlit, but “there is more story to be told.”
“We’ve had to fight tooth and nail every step of the way to get this show made, starting all the way back in 2016 with the Scavengers short film to the release of the first season last year,” Bennett wrote in the post. “It’s a case study for believing in something and persevering through a million and one hurdles. But, it got made, thanks especially to so many people who supported it along the way, in big and small ways.”
Scavengers Reign, based on Bennett and co-creator Charles Huettner’s Annie Award-nominated short Scavengers, centers on the survivors of wrecked interstellar freighter as they struggle to survive on an alien world teeming with hostile lifeforms.

Season 1 was executive produced by Chris Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, Shannon Prynoski and Ben Kalina from animation studio Titmouse, Bennett and Huettner, as well as co-executive producers Sean Buckelew and James Merrill and supervising director Benjy Brooke from Green Street Pictures, which produced the new S2 teaser in house. The voice cast featured Wunmi Mosaku, Bob Stephenson, Sunita Mani, Ted Travelstead and Alia Shawkat.
Scavengers Reign launched as a Max Original in October of 2023 and won broad critical acclaim, rocketing to a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes as well as a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Animated Program (plus a win for Individual Achievement in Animation to background designer Noémie Leroux-Cazaubon) and four Annie nominations, for mature audience TV production, directing, production design and writing.
Despite an enthusiastic reception from critics and hitting No. 1 on Max’s most-watched titles list, the streamer announced it was canceling Scavengers Reign in May of this year. The first 12-episode season was picked up non exclusively by Netflix, with hints that a second season would be ordered pending its performance on the platform.
