Disney+ has revealed that the new Inside Out animated spinoff series, Dream Productions, has totted up 5.6 million views globally for its first episode in fine days of viewing, the streamer’s most-watched animated premiere since Marvel’s What If…? in 2021. The four-parter debuted on December 11.
The powerful performance is fitting, following the debut of Inside Out 2 as the streamer’s top film premiere of 2024. The sequel set numerous box office records and is the highest-grossing animated film of all time.
Dream Productions out performed X-Men ’97, which dropped in March and was reported by Disney at the time as the biggest post-What If…? toon debut with 4M views in five days. The new Pixar show delivered +40% over those numbers, especially impressive for an animated miniseries.
Synopsis: Riley is growing up and when her memories need some extra processing, Joy and the rest of the Core Emotions send them to Dream Productions. Acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (Paula Pell) faces a nightmare of her own: Trying to create the next hit dream after being paired up with Xeni (Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director looking to step up into the big leagues of night dreams.
Disney+ defines “views” as total stream time divided by runtime.
