Will McCormack and Michael Govier, executive producer/writer and director/writer, respectively, of the Oscar-winning animated short If Anything Happens I Love You, are teaming up with Rashida Jones (The Other Black Girl, Parks and Recreation) to script a fresh feature film take on Tom and Jerry from Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. McCormack and Jones previously collaborated on the original story for Pixar’s Toy Story 4.
Details of the project, including whether this will be a fully animated follow-up for the 2021 hybrid pic, are yet to be revealed.
Tom the Cat and Jerry the Mouse’s slapstick rivalry began in 1940 with the cartoon theatrical shorts (114 in total) created by William Hanna & Joseph Barbera and produced by MGM until its animation department was shut down. The toons earned the iconic duo a total of seven Oscars over the 20th century.
Jones is represented by UTA and Schreck Rose; McCormick by UTA, Range and Paul Hastings; and Govier by UTA and Range.
