A trio of talented and adorable critters take a bow in Lulumos, a new series of CG-animated sing-alongs now available online. The shorts hail from Brazil’s Miralumo Films, and have launched on YouTube and with a new official website.
In the premiere short, three inseparable friends — Hit, Disco and Zig Lu — take the stage for a performance full of music, energy and cuteness in a school talent show. With super lively and educational songs, they invite the kids (and the whole family) to sing, dance and have fun together.
“We chose a live performance as the setting for this song because it is a moment that many children experience at school — full of anticipation, anxiety and joy,” explains director Gustavo Ribeiro. “It’s incredible to see the characters start out shy and then shine on stage — it’s a message of overcoming for the little ones.”
The first episode features an English version for the classic kids’ song “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”, performed by the characters. The original Brazilian Portuguese version has already raced to 305k views in one month. The series mixes popular rhythms with reinterpretations of children’s classics, but the producers say there will also be room for original compositions.
“We wanted to bring songs that kids already love, but with a very Brazilian touch. In addition, we thought of the choreography as something simple and accessible, inspired by famous internet dances, but adapted for children. It’s about fun and movement,” adds Ribeiro
New episodes will be added regularly over the next months.
Lulumos is created by Miralumo Films, directed by Ribiero and produced by Thais Peixe. The internationally award-winning animation studio is also the creator of Napo, which was shown at more than 100 festivals around the world, winning 60 awards. The cartoon currently has more than 16 million views on YouTube.
“Behind the series’ visuals, there is a great deal of technological development carried out by Miralumo Filmes to make this project possible.” says Ribeiro, who also directed Napo. “Among the innovative aspects are the mix of 3D characters with 2D facial expressions and the development of an exclusive pipeline for the animation’s production.”
Based in Brazil, Miralumo is also a co-founder of Revolution, a digital arts school that trains new talents for the creative industry.
