“On behalf of the entire Maybe Elephants team, I wish you a year filled with love and memorable experiences.” – Torill Kove
Oscar-winning animation director Torill Kove (The Danish Poet), whose latest short Maybe Elephants is shortlisted for this year’s Academy Awards, has created a brand-new animated New Year’s message. Animation Magazine has the honor to showcase this new work for our readers exclusively today.
One of 15 films shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, Maybe Elephants explores the very human need to escape one’s past and start anew.
Maybe Elephants and today’s premiere, New Year’s Resolutions, are written and directed by Kove and produced by the Norwegian studio Mikrofilm and the National Film Board of Canada.
Maybe Elephants premiered at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France in 2024 and has been selected to screen at more than 30 festivals around the world, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Animation Is Film and the Ottawa International Animation Festival.
Kove recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from SPARK ANIMATION in Vancouver — Western Canada’s largest animation festival.
