OVID Streams Signe Baumane’s ‘Teat Beat of Sex,’ ‘Rocks in My Pockets’ in February

This February, indie film platform OVID (ovid.tv) presents 22 new films and 16 exclusives. The lineup includes two compelling projects from celebrated animator Signe Baumane, following the streamer’s presentation of her latest feature My Love Affair with Marriage in December.

On Thursday, February 13, catch the OVID Exclusive debut of Rocks in My Pockets, Baumane’s 2014 2D feature. Exploring the issue of mental health struggles within families, the film won multiple awards from the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and Latvian National Film Festival.

Synopsis: A funny film about depression. The film is based on true events involving five women of Signe Baumane’s family, including herself, and their battles with depression and suicide. It raises questions of how much family genetics determine who we are and if it is possible to outsmart one’s own DNA. The film is packed with visual metaphors, surreal images and a twisted sense of humor.

Then, appropriately for Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14 will see the OVID Exclusive launch of Baumane’s short film series Teat Beat of Sex (2008). Raunchy and reflective, the shorts earned recognition from the Ottaw International Animation Festival, BeFilm, Talinn Black Nights, FEMINA and more.

The full collection of 15 shorts present a variety of humorous, explicit and educational takes on sex from a woman’s perspective.

Outside these animated gems, OVID will be debuting a number of compelling live-action titles, including an extensive collection of documentaries, dramas and comedies centering African-American and post-colonial narratives for Black History Month.
