‘Edge of Tomorrow’ Source Inspires New ‘All You Need Is Kill’ Anime Movie

All You Need Is Kill Hiroshi Sakurazaka / Shueisha, ALL YOU NEED IS KILL Project About Warner Bros. Japan:

Warner Bros. Japan LLC has announced that production is currently underway on All You Need Is Kill, a new animated feature based on the original light novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka (2004). Along with this greenlight announcement, teaser trailer, teaser visual and comments from creators have been released.

Sakurazakaʼs All You Need Is Kill, known for its groundbreaking time loop concept and powerful narrative of growth, played a pivotal role in the time loop sci-fi phenomenon and was previously adapted into the global hit film Edge of Tomorrow, directed by Doug Liman and starring Tom Cruise.

Logline: Trapped in a time loop after an alien invasion, the girl and boyʼs chance encounter will shape the fate of an endless battlefield. Get ready for a breathtaking action-fantasy sci-fi adventure!

The new anime feature is being produced by Studio4℃ (Tekkonkinkreet, Children of the Sea). Kenichiro Akimoto is directing the project, which “recreates the story through a fresh perspective, focusing on Rita’s inner journey as a warrior, delving into her loneliness, struggles and personal growth.”

Akimoto made his directorial debut with 2021’s Fortune Favors lady Nikuko. Prior to this, he served as art director on Poupelle of Chimney Town and work on Children of the Sea (CG director), Thirst (CG director, CG modeling chief) and the Berserk: The Golden Age film trilogy (CG modeling, rigging, animation, expression development, storyboarding).
