Over the weekend, Netflix took its turn in the spotlight at AnimeJapan 2025 to debut new footage, images and details for several of its anime titles. The showcase included returning favorites and upcoming gems yet to be discovered by fans.
On stage were voice stars Chiaki Kobayashi (voice of Mash in Mashle and Stark in Funeral of Frieren) from Moonrise; the voice of Legoshi in BEASTARS Final Season, Chikahiro Kobayashi (Saichi Sugimoto in Golden Kamuy and Shion in Hell’s Paradise); Yu Kobayashi (Sasha in Attack on Titan and Ayame Sarutobi in Gintama) from Moonrise & Arcane; and My Melody from My Melody & Kuromi.
A special video was presented to tease the Netflix Anime lineup for 2025, including Sakamoto Days, Fire Force Season 3, Blue Box, Detective Conan: Submarine of Steel, Leviathan, Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem of the Revenge, Baban Baban Baban Vampire, and more. Anime has become established as a popular genre on Netflix, watched by over 100 million households a year.
One of the key highlights was a new trailer for Moonrise, a brand-new sci fi series based on an original story by novelist and screenwriter Ubukata Tou (Tenchi Meisatsu, Psycho-Pass), with character designs by manga artist Arakawa Hiromu (Fullmetal Alchemist, Silver Spoon), directed by Koizuka Masashi (Attack on Titan S2 & S3) and animated by WIT Studios (Ranking of Kings, Spy X Family). The series will stream exclusively on Netflix from April 10.
In a near future where the AI Sapientia is in charge of rational decision-making. A cosmic-scale battle between the “Earth’s residents” who live peacefully and the “Moon’s Resistance,” who are plotting liberation from Earth, begins. One day, Jack (Chiaki Kobayashi), loses his family in a terrorist bombing carried out by a rebel group on the moon, which was plotting to liberate them from Earth. Jack, who has sworn revenge, decides to head to the moon with his comrades as a scout for the Earth Army.
Fans also got a first look at BEASTARS Final Season Part 2, coming soon to the streamer (Part 1 is already available). The youth drama is set in a world where carnivores and herbivores coexist, in which a troubled young gray wolf, Legoshi (Chikahiro Kobayashi), grows up while struggling with the differences between the species. Legoshi, a high school student, was troubled as he was not sure whether his feelings for his first love, the dwarf rabbit Haru (Sayaka Senbongi), were love or appetite, but after going through various experiences, he has accepted himself as a carnivore and now wants to “become stronger” in order to protect Haru and the herbivores.
In the final season, Legoshi leaves school for a certain reason and goes out into society to start a new life. Meanwhile, as the truth behind the rapidly increasing “cannibalism incidents” is revealed, the figure of Melon (Koji Okino), a mysterious beast operating in the underworld, begins to emerge, and the threat of this beast approaches Legoshi. .. What will be the outcome of the deadly battle between Melon and Legoshi, whose conflict is gradually becoming more intense? And what will become of Legoshi’s love with Haru?
Sanrio-philes were treated to a sweet new image from My Melody & Kuromi, a stop-motion animated series launching exclusively on Netflix in July. The show centers on the characters My Melody is a cheerful and honest girl celebrating her 50th anniversary this year, and Kuromi, who calls herself My Melody’s rival and appears tough but is actually a very girly character, and is celebrating her 20th anniversary since her debut.
At AnimeJapan, My Melody appeared on stage and it was revealed that the character’s longtime dream of becoming a candy store owner will be realized in her new show.
The project is directed by Misato Tomoki (original creator, scriptwriter & director of PUI PUI Molcar) and written by Nemoto Muneko (original story and scriptwriter for More Transcendental).
The Japanese voice cast was announced for Devil May Cry, the new global anime original from Netflix based on the hit Capcom game of the same name, exec produced by Adi Shankar (Castlevania) and animated by Studio Mir (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf). The series premieres April 3, beginning the tale of Dante, a man who runs a handyman business… but whose true identity is a devil hunter living in a world filled with darkness.
On stage, it was announced that Morikawa Toshiyuki will voice Dante, a man who spends his days hunting various demons at the request of his brokers and friends; Orikasa Fumiko will play Lady, a devil hunter who uses a variety of guns; and Hirata Hiroaki will play Vergil.
