PBS KIDS & Future Brain Launch ‘City Island Adventure’ Game Based on Aaron Augenblick Series

Youngsters can dive into the vibrant world of City Island like never before, as PBS KIDS and Future Brain Media team up with developer Curious Media to launch City Island Adventure — a new game inspired by the hit series created by animation veteran Aaron Augenblick. The game launches today on the PBS KIDS Games app and website.

City Island Adventure invites kids ages 6-11 to explore the five iconic boroughs of City Island — City Center, Brickland, Homeville, Skytown and Maker Hill — through 14 immersive mini-games. Along the way, players will tackle real-world challenges like painting a mural, planting a community garden, improving infrastructure, and spotting hidden messages in advertising. It’s fun with a purpose, introducing essential lessons in civics, community and media literacy.

Players can step into the shoes (or, rather, bulbs and kites) of fan-favorite characters Watt Light and Windy Kite, voiced by Kimia Behpoornia and Kimiko Glenn. Comedian James Adomian also returns, voicing a colorful cast of City Island citizens.

The gameplay aims to provide an engaging and immersive experience for players, allowing them to enter the uniquely anthropomorphic world, explore a vast metropolis and interact with its diverse residents. This ambitious project is the result of a collaboration between Curious, the game developers, and Future Brain, the writers and animators behind the series.

“My dream was to give fans of the show a chance to step inside the world of City Island, and hang out with all the characters. It’s a blend of all my favorite things: cartoons, surrealism, city life, and comedy, all wrapped up in a video game,” said series creator Augenblick.

Players will encounter an array of mini-games strategically hidden throughout the city, encouraging deeper exploration and interaction within City Island. Each gameplay element is tied to core concepts in civics, providing players with not only entertainment but also educational value.

In addition to City Island Adventure, fans can unleash their creativity with the City Island Neighbor Maker, now available on the PBS KIDS app and website. All episodes of City Island and its musical spin-off City Island Sings! are available to watch across all platforms on PBS KIDS. Merchandise is available at the City Island Store.
