The newly re-launched Women In Animation group has scheduled its first New York City event and membership drive for Feb. 11 from 6:30-9:30 p.m., during Kidscreen Summit 2014.
Now celebrating its 20th year as a professional nonprofit organization for women who are involved in any aspect of the animation industry, WIA will host the event at Iguana, located at 240 W. 54th St. The event is open to women and men who are interested in learning more about WIA.
WIA Co-Presidents Kristy Scanlan and Marge Dean, and Jinko Gotoh, chairwoman of chapter support, will discuss WIA’s vision for encouraging women to share fully in the creation, production and rewards of animation.
The event is sponsored by Shotgun Software, ToonBoom, The Jim Henson Co., NCircle Entertainment and Animation Magazine.
The first 100 attendees to arrive will receive a copy of the Dr. Seuss DVD Cat in the Hat – Hurray It’s Valentine’s Day, courtesy of NCircle Entertainment. A free digital subscription to Animation Magazine will be available to everyone who attends the party. The onsite raffle will include prizes such as a private tour for two of The Jim Henson Co.’s New York-based studio.
RSVPs are due Feb. 7 and can be made online at whoozin.com/WUU-MMW-XXYW. To learn more about Women In Animation, please visit its website at www.womeninanimation.org.
