FX’s mature-auds spy spoof Archer took home the top animation prize at the 2014 Critics’ Choice Awards on Thursday night. The show, created by Adam Reed (Frisky Dingo) and this year re-upped for a sixth and seventh season, beat out its sister network FOX’s shows Bob’s Burgers (which also features the voice of comedian H. Jon Benjamin in the lead role), The Simpsons and Family Guy, as well as kids’ series Phineas and Ferb (Disney XD) and Adventure Time (Cartoon Network).
Animated fare was shunned from the rest of the category winners and nominations, also vfx showcases like HBO’s Game of Thrones, FX’s American Horror Story: Coven and the Doctor Who special An Adventure in Space and Time from BBC America earned noms in a few of the live-action dominated arenas.
Coven‘s Jessica Lange was awarded Best Actress in a Movie or Mini-Series, and Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey (Fox/National Geographic Channel) — which features vfx and animated segments — won Best Reality Series as well as Best Reality Host for Neil deGrasse Tyson.
