Fox and CN Toons Dominate Emmy Nominations

The nominations for the 2016 Prime Time Emmy Awards are in, with few surprises in the running this year — at least where animation is concerned. Fox TV / FX series nabbed three out of five slots for Outstanding Animated Program, while Cartoon Network / Adult Swim shows dominate the Outstanding Short Form Animated Program category with four out of five nods.

The Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance contenders are slightly more varied, with Comedy Central’s South Park and Crackle’s SuperMansion both receiving two nominations, with Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane making number five. MacFarlane’s Family Guy roles have been nominated in this category three times, and he took the prize in 2000 for playing Stewie.

Out of favorite VFX showcase series, Games of Thrones triumphs once again getting the most nominations of all with 23 — including, of course, Outstanding Special Visual Effects, in which category it is up against Black Sails, The Man in the High Castle, Penny Dreadful and Vikings. The nominees for Visual Effects in a Supporting Role are Better Call Saul, 11.22.63, Hannibal, Sherlock: The Abominable Bride and The Walking Dead.
