‘The Films of Studio Ghibli’ Returns to TIFF Bell Lightbox

That all-anime spotlight program “Spirited Away: The Films of Studio Ghibli” will return for a third time to TIFF Bell Lightbox as a delightful audience treat for the holiday season. Showcasing 22 feature films from one of the world’s most iconic studios, the near-exhaustive retrospective will screen subtitled and dubbed films from Studio Ghibli and legendary director Hayao Miyazaki in Toronto from December 24, 2016 through January 10, 2017.

This year’s edition welcomes two new titles to the line-up: Gorō Miyazaki’s directorial debut Tales from Earthsea (2006) and the North American premiere of the very rare short, Ghiblies: Episode 2 (2002) — a cartoon caricature of life inside the studio which puts the artists in the spotlight. Other highlights include the first Ghibli film Castle in the Sky (1986), beloved forest sprite adventure My Neighbor Totoro (1988), hit sequel The Cat Returns (2002) and Oscar nominee Howl’s Moving Castle (2004) — one of the financially successful Japanese films of all time.
