Two newly launched European production companies have received a literal stamp of approval from the Vatican for their work on the upcoming faith-based animated feature Fatima and the Secret Treasure, announced last fall. His Holiness, Pope Francis, has even recorded performances of two different characters in the family-friendly adventure, inspired by the apparition of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in the Portuguese parish 100 years ago.
Slated for release in May 2018, the producers hope to attract not only the world’s 1.2 billion Catholic moviegoers, but people of all ages and religious (or non-religious) beliefs with its overarching message of friendship, peace, tolerance and respect. The movie is being produced in American English by Imaginew in Portugal, with Platige Image in Poland handling creative duties and animation.
