The 2018 edition of the Palm Springs Intl. Animation Festival has announced its lineup of animated features and shorts for the event, which takes place Aug. 22-25 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center.
Among this year’s highly anticipated screenings are:
- The Wall. Cam Christiansen’s rotoscoped NFB documentary is inspired by British Oscar-winning screenwriter and playwright David Hare’s trip to the wall separating Israel and Palestine.
- Marnie’s World. The latest CG feature by Oscar-winning German brothers Christoph and Wolfgang Lauenstein (Luis and the Aliens) about a naive house cat who joins three other animals on a road trip.
- Mission Kathmandu: The Adventures of Nelly and Simon. Directed by Nancy Florence Savard and Pierre Greco, family adventure film about an apprentice detective and a research assistant in search of the legendary Yeti.
- North of Blue. Award-winning Portland-based indie animator Joanna Priestley’s stunning abstract take on natural beauty of the Yukon.
- Hoffmaniada. Russian master Stanislav Sokolov’s much-anticipated stop-motion epic based on tales of E.T.A. Hoffmann has been in the works for 17 years.
- Cowboys and Indians. Farbrice du Welz’s documentary follows the careers of talented Belgian animation duo Vincent Patar and Stephane Aubier (A Town Called Panic, Ernest and Celestine).
- Kikoriki Déjà vu. The third installment of the popular Riki Group’s animated franchise finds the gang traveling through different time periods, directed by Denis Chernov.
The festival also features numerous showcases of the best of animated shorts (CG, 2D, stop-motion, family projects, abstract, LGBTQ themes, special needs, etc.). Among some of the better-known titles are:

- Egg by Martina Scarpelli
- Ugly by Nikita Diakur
