Animation-focused digital media co. Cartuna will see two of its adult-targeted short form series launch on Facebook Watch: Human Kind Of and Liverspots and Astronots. Both toons will have 21-episode seasons, rolling out three new episodes per week.
Launched Sunday, September 16, Human Kind Of is a female-driven, 2D sci-fi comedy about a brilliant teenage girl who finds out her estranged father was an alien. With the help of her hippie mom, hardcore best friend, and a depressed science teacher, Judy will attempt to navigate the weirdest puberty ever. The voice cast features Michelle Trachtenberg, Kate Berlant, Jill Talley, Zak Orth, John Early and Betsy Sodaro.
Diana McCorry created the show, and also serves as writer/director with Daniel Shepard. McCorry, Shepard, James Belfer and Adam Belfer are executive producers. The art direction and animation is by Joy Buran and Noelle Melody.
On Thursday, October 18, Facebook Watch will launch Liverspots and Astronots. The trippy 2D buddy comedy brings to life Dusty Craters: a dilapidated nursing home floating through space, carrying a colony of grumpy elderly folks under the care of an evil goat-faced doctor. When Big Man (a telepathic female ape) and Roosi (the home’s brightest resident) begin to unravel the mystery of their strange home, they realize it may be integral to the survival of the universe! Colin Mochrie, Keith David, Nicole Sullivan, Maria Bamford, John Waters, Pauly Shore, Selma Blair, Dick Cavett and Hearty White lend their vocal chops.
The series is created, art directed and animated by Robert Bohn and Nate Milton, who have been developing the concept on bar napkins over the past 10 years since conceiving the idea as students at School of Visual Arts. The writers are Bohn, Milton, Shepard and McCorry. Exec producers are Milton, Bohn, Shepard, James Belfer and Adam Belfer. McCorry serves as series producer.
