What would Turkey Day be without everyone’s favorite event, Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade—which features many balloon versions of popular animated characters, floating above Manhattan? The tradition, which started in 1924, is billed as the world’s largest parade.
Hosted on NBC by the TODAY Show’s Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker, the Parade lands in front of Macy’s flagship store on 34th Street. The three-hour Macy’s event will be held beginning at 9:00 a.m and will be televised on NBC and CBS.

Felix the Cat was the first balloon introduced in 1931, followed by Mickey Mouse in 1934, Donald Duck in 1935 and the Tin Man, Pinocchio and Santa Claus in 1939, Superman in 1940, Mighty Mouse in 1951, Popeye in 1957, Bullwinkle the Moose in 1961 and Sinclair Dino in 1963.
Among the performers slated to appear on the 26 floats this year are Ally Brooke (Nickelodeon), Anka Noni Rose and the Muppets of Sesame Street, Barenaked Ladies, Diana Ross, Ella Mai, John Legend, Leona Lewis, Martina McBride, Pentatonix, Rita Ora and Sugarland.
