‘Penguin Highway’ Waddles to NorAm Theaters April 12

Anime distributor ELEVEN ARTS has released its English-subtitled official U.S. trailer for Japan Academy Prize-nominated feature Penguin Highway, revealing that screenings in select Stateside theaters will begin April 12, followed by a Canadian rollout on April 19. A complete list of venues and dates can be found on the ELEVEN ARTS website.

Penguin Highway opened in Japan on August 17. ELEVEN ARTS presented the U.S. premiere at Crunchyroll Expo in September; it also screened at Animation Is Film and took the both the Satoshi Kon Award for Excellence in Animation and the Gold Audience Award at Fantasia Film Festival.

Directed by Hiroyasu Ishida (Colorido shorts Sonny Boy & Dewdrop Girl, Fumiko’s Confession), the Madhouse-produced movie is adapted from the original novel by Tomihiko Morimi — the author behind Masaaki Yuasa works The Tatami Galaxy and Night Is Short, Walk on Girl — and is scripted by Makoto Ueda, with character designs by Yojiro Arai and music by Umitaro Abe.

Synopsis:

Budding genius Aoyama is only in the 4th grade, but already lives his life like a scientist. When penguins start appearing in his sleepy suburb hundreds of miles from the sea, Aoyama vows to solve the mystery. When he finds the source of the penguins is a woman from his dentist’s office, they team up for an unforgettable summer adventure!
