‘Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe’ Scores Like Awesome Reviews (Heh, Heh)!!

If you plan to check out Mike Judge’s latest movie Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe this weekend on Paramount+, we have some good news for you. The reviews have been positively glowing! The new film is showing off an impressive 97 % rating on Rottentomatoes.com (compare that to Lightyear’s 76% and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse’s 74%).

The latest venture finds our two not-so-bright heroes at space camp through “creative sentencing” from a juvenile court judge in 1998. Mistaking a docking simulator for something else (huh huh), Beavis and Butt-Head excel at it and are asked to join the space shuttle mission in a PR move. After ruining the mission, they end up going through a black hole and reemerging back on Earth in 2022, only to discover a very different world — and find themselves considered Buttholes of Interest by the NSA, the governor of Texas, and a highly intelligent version of themselves from a parallel universe.

The film features the voices of Judge (leads), Gary Cole (Mattison), Chris Diamantopoulos (police office, prisoners, etc.), Nat Fax (Jim Hartson), Chi McBride (Metcalf, Judge), Brian Huskey (Richard Wack), Tig Nitaro (Professor), Stephen Root (Jail Tattoo Artist), Andrea Savage (Serena Ryan) and Phil LaMarr (Flight Specialist Jackson)

Mike Judge is back in fine form with the new movie, “Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe.”

Here is a quick sampler of what the critics are saying about the duo’s gnarly space adventure:

“What’s so wonderful about the sequel Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe is that Judge does nothing to make his most famous creation any more sophisticated — visually or comedically. His new movie is gloriously, hilariously crude.”

— Noel Murray, Los Angeles, Times

“The movie knows it won’t change the world, or precincts outside it. But the abundance of not entirely cheap laughs that this movie — which is best watched over a plate of nachos — delivers is therapeutic.”

— Glenn Kenny, The New York Times

“Sure, it’s another throwback intended to wring value out of nostalgia, but one executed with a level of relentless silliness that, like its “stars,” won’t ever be accused of over-thinking things.”

— Brian Lowry, CNN.com

“I’m not sure that the world was clamoring for another Beavis and Butt-Head movie, and this one isn’t exactly the “Top Gun: Maverick” of B & B-Head sequels. It is, however, a shaggy, snark-infused lark that’s likable enough to get by.”

— Owen Gleiberman, Variety

“Thankfully, the time away hasn’t diminished the smart-dumb comedic value of their personas; watching this latest revival, fans will probably match them chuckle for chuckle.”

— A. Dowd, The Guardian
