‘Mad God’ Director Phil Tippett, EP Colin Geddes Join Forces for New Canadian Prodco

Oscar- and Emmy-winning stop-motion animator and special effects icon Phil Tippett, who this year unleashed his feature directorial debut Mad God on moviegoers, is aligning his California-based production company Tippett Studio (Jurassic Park, Star Wars: A New Hope / Empire Strikes Back, RoboCop) with Colin Geddes’ Toronto-based Ultra 8 Pictures for a new Canadian venture, Tippett Productions.

The new shingle will specialize in producing film and TV projects created by animation and visual effects artists, including several originals conceived by Tippett. Gary Mundell, President of the recently launched Tippett Canada and COO of Tippett Studio is spearheading Tippett Productions with Geddes, a producer and curator for Shudder (now streaming Mad God, which Geddes exec produced), and former programmer of TIFF’s Midnight Madness track.

Geddes will also lead development at Tippett Productions with his partner, writer-producer Katarina Gligorijevic, working closely with Mundell and other Tippett Studio pros on the studio’s initial slate.

“As a visual effects company, Tippett Studio is consistently at the top of its game, with projects like The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian, Locke & Key and others,” Mundell told Deadline. “But we’re also eager to build on the incredible momentum we’ve achieved with Mad God and expand into making more of our own original content. With Phil’s creative vision and the team we’ve assembled, this feels like the next natural evolution of the Tippett brand.”
