Sony Pictures Animation has widened the portal into the Spider-Verse with the new official trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the highly anticipated sequel to the groundbreaking, Oscar-winning animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The Marvel adventure will open exclusively in theaters on June 2, 2023.
The preview opens gently with a tender moment between Miles Morales (a.k.a. Spider-Man, voiced by Shameik Moore) and his mother, Rio (Luna Lauren Vélez) — plus the fans’ expected animated cameo by the late Stan Lee — before accelerating into a multiverse pachinko machine full of Spiderfolk in action.
Synopsis: Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.
Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay by producers Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham, Across the Spider-Verse features the voices of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales/Spider-Man, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman, Jake Johnson as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Daniel Kaluuya as Hobie Brown/Spider-Punk, Jason Schwartzman as The Spot, Brian Tyree Henry as Jefferson Davis (Miles’s father), Luna Lauren Vélez as Rio Morales (Miles’s mother), Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch as a school counselor, Jorma Taccone as The Vulture, Shea Whigham as police captain George Stacy (Gwen’s father) and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099.
