Marvel Studios has offered fans a look at the mutant evolution that has led to the new animated series X-Men ’97, premiering next week (March 20) with the first two episodes on Disney+.
“X-Men ’97 is not a reboot of the original series,” executive producer Brad Winderbaum points out in the video, “but literally a next-day continuation.”
The special advance look also features consulting producer Larry Houston, the Emmy-nominated producer/director of the 1990s X-Men: The Animated Series, as well as returning voice stars Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler), Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Lenore Zann (Rogue) and George Buza (Beast).
Synopsis: X-Men ’97 revisits the iconic era of the 1990s as The X-Men, a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them, are challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future.
New voice casting for the revival include Ray Chase (taking over as Cyclops), Jennifer Hale (Jean Grey; Jubilee in the original series), JP Karliak (Morph), AJ LoCasio (Gambit), Holly Chou (Jubilee), Isaac Robinson-Smith (Bishop) and Matthew Waterson (Magneto).
The series was led creatively by showrunner, head writer and executive producer Beau DeMayo (who mysteriously left Marvel last week). Episodes were directed by Jake Castorena, Chase Conley and Emi Yonemura. Featuring music by The Newton Brothers, the series is executive produced by Winderbaum, DeMayo, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito and Victoria Alonso.
