Final ‘Exploding Kittens’ Trailer Ushers in the A-paw-calypse on Netflix

On the heels of its big Next on Netflix Animation news deluge, the streamer let off a little more adult comedy steam with the debut of the final trailer and character posters for Exploding Kittens — the irreverent new animated series based on the hit card game, arriving July 12.  Netflix’s fan-centered blog Tudum also posted an interview with showrunner and executive producer Matthew Inman, founder of The Oatmeal webcomic and co-creator of the game.

Synopsis: Earth sucks, so God (Tom Ellis) gets fired and sent to Earth to reconnect with humanity. The catch? He’s trapped in the body of a chubby house cat. As part of his rehabilitation, he moves in with the dysfunctional Higgins family, and tries to solve their problems, but ends up spending a lot of time chasing laser pointers. And to top it off, Godcat’s next-door neighbor, who is also a cat, turns out to be none other than his nemesis, the Antichrist. The result is the ultimate fight between good versus evil … except, Godcat (Ellis) is distracted by a pigeon he saw in the yard and Devilcat (Sasheer Zamata) is busy napping on someone’s laptop.

In addition to Ellis (Lucifer) and Zamata (Saturday Night Live), the key voice cast also features Ally Maki (Wrecked) as Greta Higgins, Mark Proksch (What We Do in the Shadows) as Marv Higgins, Suzy Nakamura (Avenue 5) as Abbie Higgins, Kenny Yates (ReBroken) as Travis Higgins and Abraham Lim (The Boys).

Inman shared showrunner duties with Shane Kosakowski (You’re the Worst). The series is also executive produced by Mike Judge, Greg Daniels and Dustin Davis of Bandera Entertainment; Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping for the Chernin Entertainment Group; and executive producers and creators of the Exploding Kittens franchise, Elan Lee and The Oatmeal’s Inman.
