Paramount Pushes Back Release Date for Animated ‘Transformers One’ Feature

Transformers diehard fans will have to wait two more months to check out Paramount’s 2024 animated feature based on the durable franchise. Deadline reports that the studio has pushed back the release date for director Josh Cooley’s (Toy Story 4) Transformers One movie from July 19, 2024 to Sept. 13, 2024.

The movie will arrive a week after Warner Bros.’ Beetlejuice 2, Disney’s Blade and another unannounced Disney release. Originally, the movie was going to be released on the same days as Universal’s Twisters.

The upcoming feature is produced by Paramount Animation, Hasbro and eOne and focuses on how a young Optimus Prime (portrayed by Chris Hemsworth) and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry) went from being brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies. The pic also features Scarlett Johansson, Keegan-Michael Key, Jon Hamm and Laurence Fishburne, as the voices of Elita, Bumblebee, Sentinel Prime and Alpha Trion.

Transformers One was written by Andrew Barker, Gabriel Ferrari, Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Tom DeSanto, Don Murphy, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian and Aaron Dem. Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer and Valerii An are executive producers.

Based on the  successful Hasbro and Takara Tomy toys, the first Transformers series debuted in 1984 and ran through Nov. 11, 1987 in syndication. The show was produced by Marvel, Sunbow, in association with Toei Animation. South Korean studio AKOM came on board for the third season of the series. The first feature The Transformers: The Movie, which was directed by Nelson Shin and penned by Ron Friedman was released in 1986 and served as a bridge between the second and third season of the show. The impressive voice cast included Eric Idle, Judd Nelson, Leonard Nimoy, Robert Stack, Lionel Stander and Orson Welles, Frank Welker, Casey Kasem, and Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.
