‘Invincible’ Studio Skybound Working on Animator Competition Series

Is it time for America’s Next Toon Model? Comics and media company Skybound (The Walking Dead, Invincible) is reportedly developing a new reality competition series based on the search for ‘the next animation visionary.’ The project will be a co-production of Skybound’s recently launched unscripted division, led by Brent Jacoby, and  DIGA Studios (Selling the Hamptons, Big Trick Energy).

The Hollywood Reporter, which revealed the series plans, ties to the new project to Skybound’s acquisition of the indie animation festival brand Spike & Mike last fall. The “sick and twisted” event has helped launch the careers of accomplished mainstream and auteur animators like Mike Judge, Tim Burton and Andrew Stanton, and the relaunch planned for early 2025 has already received more than 1,000 film submissions. Skybound is looking to recruit a batch of contestants for the competition show from this pool of filmmakers, says THR.

Spike & Mike is presenting two screenings (one adults only, one kid-friendly) of films from its festival vaults during San Diego Comic-Con; details here.
