‘Superthings’ Toy Franchise Gets Animated in New Series

Liquid Rock Entertainment has partnered with the toy company Magicbox and Filmax for the global distribution of the upcoming animated series Superthings: Rivals of Kaboom (52 x 7’). The project is based on Magicbox’s successful toy franchise, with over 250 million toys sold in more than 30 countries.

“We are excited to partner with Magicbox, Tandem and Filmax on this groundbreaking project,” said Xavi Mas, Co-Founder of Liquid Rock Entertainment. “Superthings has a rich and powerful universe of exciting characters which connect with girls & boys. We look forward to bringing the series to the next level and build together a strategic plan with all parties involved.”

Carlos Fernández, President and CEO of Filmax, added, “Superthings is one of the most exciting animation projects ever produced nationwide and our commitment to this IP is outstanding. We are confident kids will love the brand.”

Appealing to boys and girls, the Superthings franchise has consistently ranking as a top-selling brand in major markets such as Spain, U.K. and Poland, where, since 2020, it has been in the top five best-selling action figure collectible toys. The brand has expanded beyond toy shelves with more than 250 events, expo, meet & greet and live shows aimed at fans.

Superthings: Rivals of Kaboom will follow the adventures of young heroes as they face thrilling challenges in Kaboom City, where ordinary objects transform into heroes and villains with extraordinary powers. With an initial 52-episode run, the series is set to launch in Q4 2024, with a second wave of episodes slated for release in Q2 2025.

TVE, 3CAT and A Punt are co-producers of the series, with a second season already in development.

Magicbox has established a long-term toy rollout strategy for different markets co-ordinated with Liquid Rock and with the support of the Superthings theatrical release in 2026 by Filmax and production partners Tandem Films and Turanga Animation Studios.

“We’re thrilled about the incredible audiovisual commitment surrounding our IP, which includes both an animated series and a movie,” said David Bella, CEO of Magicbox. “It’s exciting to know that the millions of kids who have played with our Superthings toys will soon see their favorite characters come to life on screen. As an internationally successful toy brand, Superthings is now poised to reach new heights with the animated series and we’re especially excited to partner with Liquid Rock, who are the perfect team to elevate this series to a global audience”

Ivan Diaz, Head of International at Filmax, added, “We believe Liquid Rock, with its long-standing expertise, is the ideal partner to complement our efforts and elevate the international distribution of the series. This allows Filmax to focus on the international theatrical release of the Superthings movie, coming to theaters in
2026.”

Diego López, Head of Development at Tandem Films, commented, “Finding a seemingly simple idea that powerfully connects with children is always a challenge. Superthings achieves that by relying on a few basic but well-defined elements, creating a universe bursting with imagination. It’s an extraordinary opportunity to produce a series and a film based on such a successful and recognized brand.”

Liquid Rock Entertainment will be introducing the animated property to potential partners at MIPCOM.
