Actor/writer Adam Tsekhman and editor/director Andrew Kasch, who became close friends through their work on CW’s seven-season series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, announced from AFM that they are collaborating on a mixed-media feature film based on their psychedelia-infused short, The Gummy Bear. The project will be produced and sold by Paris- and L.A.-based Other Angle Pictures.
As in the short, Tsekhman will play an anxious homebody who embarks on the literal and figural trip of a lifetime when he takes a bit of a something-laced gummy bear — while simultaneously falling in love with the cannabis delivery woman, who is on her way to Burning Man. Convinced the manufacturer is about to loose a shipment of tainted gummies at the festival, he sets out into the Nevada desert with his loyal Jack Russell Terrier to find the girl and save the Burn, crossing paths with a murderous sheriff, Russian organ trafficker and an eccentric older couple.
Also like the short, which was spotlighted at the 2023 Just for Laughs festival, the intoxication sequences will blend multiple animated techniques including hand-drawn 2D, rotoscopy (inspired by Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards), CG and stop motion, which was created by Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio animator Michael Granberry for the short.
Other Angle is pursuing potential financiers for The Gummy Bear feature film at AFM.
