Annie Awards Nominees: ‘The Wild Robot’ Leads with 10 Nods

ASIFA-Hollywood today revealed the nominees for the 52nd Annie Awards (annieawards.org), covering the year’s greatest artistic achievements across animated feature films, shorts and series as well as visual effects and video games. The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

This year’s most-nominated project is the DreamWorks Animation feature film The Wild Robot, directed by Chris Sanders. The film is up for Best Feature, FX, Character Animation, Character Design, Direction, Music, Production Design, Voice Acting (Lupita Nyong’o and Kit Connor) and Editorial.

Roz’s success is followed by Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (Aardman/Netflix), Inside Out 2 (Pixar/Disney) and Season 2 of Arcane (Riot/Netflix) with seven nods each. Wallace & Gromit and Inside Out 2 are both up for Best Feature. Arcane, which swept the 2022 Annie Awards by winning all nine of its nomination slots with its first season, is however absent from the main adult animation category.

Also performing well with the nominations committee this year, the Inside Out spin-off series Dream Productions (Pixar/Disney+) and Richard Curtis holiday movie That Christmas (Locksmith/Netflix) both scored six nods, while Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has come out of the sewer with five nominations (one each for the turtles and their sensei!) Moana 2 (Disney), Ultraman: Rising (Netflix) and Bob’s Burgers (20th Television Animation/FOX) each scored four nods.

Overall it is a banner year for Netflix Animation, whose feature and series projects earned a total of 35 nominations — more than Disney and Pixar combined (both with 13). DreamWorks received 20 nods, seven of which crossover with the Netflix total (those for Orion and the Dark, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory and Gabby’s Dollhouse).

In addition to the nominees, this year’s Juried Awards recipients were also revealed. Recognizing “unparalleled achievement and exceptional contributions to animation,” these honors will go to:

  • The Winsor McCay Awards
    • Aaron Blaise
    • Eunice Macaulay
    • Normand Roger
