‘Gumball,’ ‘Gruffalo’s Child’ Win British Animation Awards

Cartoon Network’s The Amazing World of Gumball won the top award for Best Children’s Series and Children’s Choice British Animation Award at the toon kudosfest in London on Thursday.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1: The Tale of the Three Brothers animated sequence swept up the BAA for Best Film/TV Graphics. BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee Grant Orchard received the BAA for best short film for A Morning Stroll produced by Studio AKA.

In the children’s categories Cartoon Network’s The Amazing World of Gumball picked up two awards, winning best children’s series and also the children’s jury judged children’s choice award. Astley Baker Davies took home best preschool series for Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom and Happy Films’ Bookaboo collected the BAA for best mixed media children’s series.

The winner for Britain’s Favorite Animated Character of all time went to Paddington Bear, the duffle-coat wearing bear from Peru, which was first introduced in 1958 in the book A Bear Called Paddington. The cuddly stop-motion animation star won the title over popular characters such as Wallace & Gromit, Postman Pat and Peppa Pig.
