If movies have a circle of life, Disney’s The Lion King keeps going around and around. The boxoffice smash is enjoying a successful third act as the special-edition re-release sells more than three million units in its first two days on the retail market.
Until Finding Nemo came along, The Lion King was the highest-grossing animated film in history. It then went on to become the best-selling home-entertainment title. Now its the No. 1 re-release ever. Based on early sales reports, the DVD and VHS release has become Disneys biggest-selling title of the year so far.
The two-disc The Lion King Special Edition DVD, presented in a restored audio and visual format, includes two versions of the film, one of which features a newly animated sequence built around the all-new song "Morning Report" by original songwriting team Sir Elton John and Sir Tim Rice.
The Buena Vista Home Ent. release is the third in the Walt Disney Home Ent. Platinum Edition collection. It goes back into the Disney vault on January 31, 2005.
