As the award-winning preschool show Jay Jay The Jet Plane celebrates its second PBS birthday, Porchlight Entertainment is launching a big licensing and branding campaign for the property.
PorchLight will launch an image advertising campaign for Jay Jay that will appear in multiple retail-focused publications over the next six months. With over 30 domestic licensees attached to the preschool brand, Jay Jay is also moving beyond the independent toy stores to national chains. Action Products just announced that its Jay Jay The Jet Plane Wooden Adventure System would be flying into the Imaginarium sections of all 700 nationwide Toys R Us stores this July.
Similarly, Toy Island’s line of Jay Jay plastic vehicles has found a home at Toys R Us and other nationwide toy chains. Barnes and Noble launched a successful nationwide Spring 2003 campaign, which tied in the Jay Jay plush finger puppets as a gift-with-book purchase promotion and included reading time events, activities, games and coloring sheets to further enhance the promotion. Additionally, Lifetouch Portrait Studios has extended its agreement to have the child-friendly Jay Jay props as part of its family portrait offerings at the 416 J.C.Penney in-store portrait outlets across the country. Due to Jay Jay’s popularity, the relationship, which began in Spring 2002, has been extended through Summer 2004.
In addition to airing on PBS domestically, Jay Jay can be seen on television in Latin America, Wales, Israel, Portugal, Hong Kong, Singapore, Korea, the Middle East, and South Africa. Created by Deborah and David Michel, Jay Jay The Jet Plane follows the adventures of a perky and curious six-year old jet plane named Jay Jay and his airplane friends who live and play at Tarrytown Airport. The award-winning 3-D animated series is seen daily on PBS stations across the United States.
