The Australian children’s series Dogstar was named Best Animation at the Asian Television Awards (ATA) in Singapore. The kudo fest recognizing television programs and production excellence attracted more than 1,200 entries from 12 Asian countries. Still, the Austrailian production managed to beat out submissions from Japan, Hong Kong, Korea and India. Dogstar has sold to more than 20 countries worldwide, and airs Sundays on Disney Channel in Australia.
Produced by Media World Pictures of Melbourne and Perth, Dogstar is set in the year 2347 and follows the adventures of the Clark kids as they search space for their missing dog, Hobart. The series of 26 half hours took two years to complete, and a second season is in pre-production, again with the support of Screen Australia, Film Victoria, ScreenWest, the Nine Network, Disney Channel and international distributor Daro Film Distribution.
‘This award means a lot to us and our extremely talented team of Australian designers and animators, especially as we were competing in such prestigious company,’ says producer Colin South.
Dogstar was nominated in two categories at this year’s AFI Awards (Best Screenplay – Televison and Best Guest/Supporting Actor in a Television Drama). The show scored a win for Best Children’s Television Script at this year’s AWGIE Awards.
