+ DHX Media is kicking off production on a new 2D animated comedy, Looped (26 x 30), aimed at kids 6-12. Created by Todd Kauffman and Mark Thornton of Neptoon Studios (Grojband), the series has been commissioned by Corus Entertainment’s YTV in Canada and presold to Super RTL in Germany. Looped stars Luc and Theo, plucky kids who glitch out the universe by creating a time loop that repeats the same Monday over and over, allowing them to take advantage of their prescience—but things turn out less predictable than they thought!
+ Zodiak Kids has secured distribution rights to Polish studio SE-MA-FOR‘s new stop-motion kids’ series, Flapper and Friends (26 x 10) and will launch the series for the first time at MIPCOM. The gentle series follows Flapper, a curious hare living in Our Wood with his animal friends, female hare Pinky, Malcom the Moose, Belly the Beaver, Suzie the Squirrel and the wise Owl who guides them through their adventures.
+ Planeta Junior will be hitting the MIP Junior market with three animated co-pros this year: intergalactic warrior adventure Sendokai Champions (two 26-episode seasons; with TVE and Kotoc), the first few episodes of ancient Egyptian themed battler Egyxos (with De Agostini Editore, Albachiara and Music Cartoon), and Bubble Bip (26 episodes available at end of year; with Triacom and Television de Catalunya). Planeta Junior will also present The Adventures of Minchi, Lua’s World and the recently acquired Bondi Band (for Europe and Middle East), with 52 episodes of the Leda Films, Exim Licensing Group and Mondo TV Espana co-pro available.
+ The Malaysian delegation to MIPCOM, lead by minister of communications & multimedia The Honorable Dato’ Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, is expected to announce over $40 million worth of deals, according to FINAS (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia). This year’s is the largest Malaysian presence yet with over 50 companies from all content platforms attending, and to celebrate recent achievements like the completion of Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios, the emergence of IPTV platforms in the country and its rollout of the 30% rebate from the Film in Malaysia Incentive.
